Coronavirus: A Reminder for Our Communities from BL ROCK
Dear All,
The dramatic spread of coronavirus has led to many of us taking the required precautions. As a result, food banks and superstores are becoming depleted of essentials, such as staple foods, hand wash and sanitary products. However, there are many in our community who are too vulnerable to be able to take these precautions. Simple tasks like food shopping, collecting prescriptions and travelling often require assistance; sadly this assistance is not readily available. Worse still, statistically, it is this population of people who will suffer the most from coronavirus.
Here are the facts:
A new persistent cough and/or fever are symptoms of coronavirus. Self-isolating is encouraged for those who suspect they are infected with COVID-19
People with existing health conditions (regardless of age) and the elderly are the most vulnerable to serious illness if they become infected
Thorough hygiene practices and avoiding large gatherings is encouraged
Whilst self-isolation is a method to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we, as active members in our communities, have the responsibility of taking care of those around us, in safe and appropriate ways.
In the coming months, remember to take care of the health and the wellbeing of those around you. Check on your neighbours and the elderly, in the same way you would do for your loved ones. After all, we are all held dear by someone; we all have value.
Here are a few things we can all start to do:
Notice those who struggle to use phones and technology, or may be neglected amongst the COVID chaos
Social distancing can be lonely, give your neighbours a call to see how they are doing
Order groceries and other essentials to be delivered to their doorstep
Donate/deliver to local foodbanks
See whether they have any important prescriptions or medications that you can help collect/deliver
Reassure and inform each other, as we are all in this together
To overcome these adversities we must remember the importance of every human life. At a time of physical distance & self-quarantines, we must keep our communities connected through kindness and compassion.

There’s also a Tower Hamlets Community Support Group on FB which was set up by a third-party - it seems to be a good place to find out how to get involved!
