Evie Russell, Candidate for BL Secretary
Role Description: As Secretary, you will be responsible for the supporting the BLSA Board - a group core to the strategy and operations of the BLSA. The Secretary works closely with the President of the BLSA to promote meetings, take minutes, and ensure the meetings are operating smoothly. You will also be able to help with other admin tasks as directed by the BLSA President. This is a non-representative position and does not sit on Student Council.
What's your favourite moment from being a student here?
Being on the BLSA board this year has been a huge highlight of my time at Bart's as it has opened me up to meeting a wide range of new people who I wouldn't have had the opportunity to have otherwise. I think because Bart's is such a small community within itself, it's worth getting involved as much as you can, whether it's on the committee, societies, or sports. I don't think I can pick a single favorite moment but I'm grateful for the people I have met at Bart's and the memories I've made with them, it's definitely made medicine easier to get through.
What's something you've done that you're proud of?
I'm proud of working with Tia to run a successful Bart's Families event this year, it was something new for us doing event organization and having the pressure of it being a long-running Bart's tradition and I do think we did a good job at it.
What is a problem facing students and how do you propose to fix it?
I think a big problem students face particularly at Bart's is the lack of clarity and transparency on what the SU and the university do that affects student's university experience both socially and academically. As secretary, I want to propose that the BLSA board minutes become more accessible to the students at Bart's who are not on committee or board positions so that they can question points and the agenda. I think that a lot of student's don't like to approach individual student's about issues they face within the university, so as secretary, I would like to organise a forum or drop in sessions that would allow student's to feedback their experiences allowing for the whole board to discuss. I think particularly focuses on the social aspect of the university as I understand that there are multiple survey's for academic feedback, but less for societies and social issues which need to be raised.
